As a locally owned restaurant, we get asked a lot of interesting questions. Many of them are food and wine related, as you would imagine. However, recently we were asked a refreshingly deep question:

“What’s the most important thing in your lives?”

Wow. The gravity of that question, right?

Well, the answer is simple:

This deer hoof lamp. It’s far and away the single most important thing in our lives. Truly, nothing else matters. Not our kids, not our staff, not even the wine cellar. Just this lamp.

This may sound extreme to you. But you don’t know. You haven’t seen it in person. You don’t understand its sex appeal. You haven’t felt its power. Once you see it, you’ll feel it too.

But we’re closed tonight and tomorrow night for private events. So you’ll have to wait until Saturday.

It’s no secret that our wine program is built on VERSATILITY. Wines that are a utility knife at the table, marrying well with a myriad of plates on our ever changing food menu. Inevitably, this leads us to Europe predominantly Italy, France, and Spain.

We make NO apologies for this.

It’s not to say that the rest of the worlds great wine countries aren’t represented on our list. They actually are, actually. They actually are.

As a matter of fact, for our upcoming “Dinner with Friends” we are choosing to focus on wines from our very own side of the pond-California (gasp!).

In a sea of faceless domestic grocery store plonk, Massican and Language of Yes are two fantastic producers committed to sustainable agriculture, sense of place, and authenticity of varietal/blend expression. Both wineries focus on Mediterranean varietals and produce wines of incredible purity and transperancy. We are thrilled to introduce them to our community and pair them alongside our local fare! Not only does this promise to be a night of great food and wine, but “Dinner with Friends” is about meeting like-minded people and building new friendships.

We’ve all heard the phrase “aging like fine wine” and while that’s true for our majestic kitchen staff, the same cannot be said for the vast majority of wine produced worldwide.

Enter Lopez de Heredia — a winery with an almost Pegasus-like reputation globally. Their wines are classic Rioja — timeless and age worthy. In fact, they release their wines when they feel the vintage is ready to drink, and not before. Their next release of their “entry” level “Cubillo” Crianza…is 2017!

Their flagship wine, “Viña Tondonia Reserva” is a single vineyard Tempranillo of grace, power, complexity, and balance. It ages effortlessly, rewarding time in the cellar by delivering a vinous experience that very few wines of the Rioja can match.

Knowing this, we’ve begun quietly building a vertical, snatching up vintages as they come stateside (most likely meant for more relevant accounts, lol.)

To date we’ve got 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 relaxing in the dressing room, just waiting for a lonely patron with a good palate and a fat stack of singles to arrive so they can take the stage and show off the goodies.
